Spirit you can stand inside
By day, the Ball State Luminary is a satin stainless-steel column with the university's cardinal and "Chirp Chirp" cut through it. After dark, the light inside writes the fight song, the cardinal, and the Ball State name in a circle about 75 feet across, so every student who crosses the lawn walks through it.
It was first switched on during the Foundation's alumni celebration for Ball State's 100th Homecoming. "I was anxious beforehand and relieved afterwards," Charlie says. "Everything worked, and there were no surprises."

Two pieces in one
By day it is quiet steel sculpture with the cardinal cut through it. After dark the same cuts become a projection that fills the lawn with the school's words.
